"The Expanse" and "Childhood's End" Premiere Date Announcement



Syfy's
highly anticipated space thriller The Expanse the series will launch with a two-night event starting Monday Dec. 14 at 10pm and Tuesday Dec. 15 at 10pm. 

The epic drama from Alcon TV based on the international best-selling book series of the same name. The series will then movie to it's regular time slot airing on Tuesday nights at 10 pm. The Expanse is set two hundred years in the future, after mankind has colonized the solar system. A hardened detective Thomas Jane (Hung) and a rogue ship's captain Steven Strait (Magic City) come together for what starts as the case of the missing young woman and evolves into a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.

Emmy Winner and Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Saddam, House of Sand and Fog) 
Chrisjen Avasarala as a smart and cunning politician who has risen in the ranks of Earth's governing body without once standing for election.

Award-winning director Terry McDonough (Breaking Bad,Suits, Better Call Saul) directed the first two episodes of the series. The series is based on the popular NYT bestselling book series known as The Expanse, written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S.A. Corey). Abraham and Franck are show producers.

Academy Award-nominated screenwriting duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Aldonso Cuaron's Chrildren of Men, Iron Man) wrote the pilot and serve as writers/executive producers. Fergus and Ostby are showrunners, alongside fellow EP Naren Shankar(CSI, Farscape).





Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End , one of the most acclaimed sci-fi novel of all time, is coming to life on Syfy in the first ever-adaptation starting on Dec. 14. The six hour TV event will air over three consecutive nights starting Monday Dec. 14, Tues. Dec. 15 and Wed. Dec 16 from 8pm-10pm et/pt.

Childhood's End follows the peaceful invasion fo Earth by the alien Overlords, who promise to eliminate poverty, war and sickness--ushering in a golden age of peace, health and security for all of humankind. But why do the Overlords insist on hiding their appearance--and what do they ultimately want from Earth? While much of the world enjoy it's new found utopia, some suspect there's a price to pay. As the truth about the Overlords intentions are revealed, humanity will discover it's actual destiny may actually be a nightmare, instead of a dream.

Alissa Phillips (Moneyball, Mob City) is co-executive producer along with producers Akiva Goldsman (Lone Survivor, A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend) and Michael De Luca (Captain Phillips, Moneyball, The Social Network).
